ImagineFX Alien Workshop

I did a workshop for the November 2013 101st issue of ImagineFX.

Big Red Eyes

Started sketching and kept going. Some weird mistakes. Came together quite quickly which is nice. About 4.5 hours in Painter X3.

He's got a cold.

Monster Worms and Unsettling Portrait of a Man

Wanted to experiment with some different lighting effects. Didn't really have a plan, just started painting.

It's not quite finished and I might come back to it but I wanted to move onto other things.

I made another process video for this one.

Weird unsettling portrait. Don't know why I did this one. I used reference. Made a video for this one too.

Diablo 3 Anniversary Fan Art

Took about 11 hours. Really struggled with this piece. I made a video showing how I did it if anyone is interested. You'll see it below.

Another Dragon

Started as a hand study. I took a photo from google and used it as reference for the hand. The photo had  it holding a small bird. Decided it was too boring and added a dragon.  Everything is better with dragons.

Everyone loves dragons. This one is a fruit dragon.

Took about 4 hours this evening. I started just painting this time, no sketch/line art. Turned out better than I thought. Used an image I found on the internet as reference for the background.

Gremlin Disposal

Wanted to do a proper illustration of a character I made a couple of weeks ago. You can see the original painting at the bottom of this post.

Made a screen capture video for this one (video is below as well). The software crashed though so I lost about a third of the footage at the end. Still got quite a bit of good stuff, though.

I wanted to do full commentary but I got depressed when I lost the footage. Maybe I'll do that for the next image.

Shark vs. Diver

I wanted to paint a shark but wanted to make it a bit more interesting.

Took about 10 hours over a long period of time. Probably more if I account for all the screwing around. If i'm honest I got bored towards the end of the painting.

I did another poor quality process video if anyone is interested.

Godzilla Battle Monster

I made a little video of my steps making this: 

It was done for the 68th 2d Creature Forge on CGHub

The brief was to design a battle monster to take on Godzilla. 

Learnt a lot. Lost some of the work due to not saving often enough. Learnt some positive things too though.

Took about 10 hours over a few nights. It was done in Painter and Photoshop.
